Outlook 2016 hangs on updating folders
Below you’ll find some common reasons for it and how to troubleshoot it.
Outlook can automatically check for new messages on a set interval.
If you find that your Outlook has stopped working, is not responding, or freezes or hangs frequently on Windows 10/8/7, then this post suggests some troubleshooting steps you can try.
To do this, open Run box from the Win X Menu, type and hit Enter.
2] Disable hardware graphics acceleration for Outlook and see if this helps. One thing you want to know is that when you disable Hardware Acceleration for Outlook, it gets turned off for all Office programs.
To do this, open Outlook program box and click on OK/Apply and Exit. If it makes the issue go away, then its probably some issue with your video driver. Hardware Acceleration uses computer’s hardware for performing a certain task and function faster than would be possible using a software. 3] At time, your Outlook may be busy carrying out some other processes, like synchronizing your mail, archiving old items, etc. In such situations, its best to let Outlook complete its task.
When you set this interval too short, a new auto check will take place before the previous one can finish and thus the send/receive tasks can accumulate so that Outlook is basically stuck in an endless synchronization process.
You shouldn’t set the automatic send/receive interval to less than 5 or even 10 minutes.Anand Khanse is the Admin of The Windows Club.com, a 10-year Microsoft MVP Awardee in Windows & a Windows Insider MVP.
